Author Topic: What's the deal with "google.com"???  (Read 913 times)

When I log into LP Forum, I see google.com as a pseudo-user.  I just thought that they were always scanning the forum for new posts to put into their search engines.  If you are a member of LP Forum, try typing your member name into a google search--you'll get to see ALL of your posts.

Anyways, I've been checking the board index, and occasionally you'll catch "google.com" doing non-searching type things that just don't seem right.

I have a screen capture from today showing google.com emailing a post.  I also saw google.com reading through a thread that didn't exist when I tried to pull it up.  This was the most fishy thing that I've seen on LP Forum.  I've also seen google.com doing "User CP".  (Edit: I found out that User CP = User Control Panel.  This seems even stranger.)

google.com is not listed as a real account.

Anyone else notice this weirdness??

I'm going to post my screen capture, but this afternoon, I caught Google.com looking at thread "songs I just don't understand".  The problem is that this thread no longer exists.

Here is the LP Forum link to the thread.

When the user "google.com" is browsing the site, it's caching the pages for their own referencing.

I'll have to post some of my screen captures.

I've got google.com doing a PM (personal message).  I've also got google.com emailing a topic.  These don't seem like archival activities to me.

My assumption is that the google bot merely exercises all possible links.  It follows every link, clickes every button, but doesn't follow through.  It flirts with the site, then moves on.  I don't think it could delete threads.
