Oh wow, I never knew that Carnivore was a Michael Penn produced LP outtake AND that it was on Comeandgetit. Or that tape 3 has an official track listing/ officially doesn't have a title.

Terrible piece. See what happens when people write about music? on the internet?
Glaring factual errors aside, I disagree with practically everything he wrote, and for such a long essay it's not very informative. If it had to be written, it's too bad it didn't come from someone who had a better understanding of her songwriting and playing technique, or rock music in general.
ETA: I'm ready to be similarly disappointed when the 33 1/3 book about Guyville hits the shelves.

It could have been shorter. Take this sentence for example:
"the primary focus of Liz Phair's music has clearly been to come to terms with and/or deal with the multi-faceted vicissitudes of being female"
Not sure what he hopes to accomplish with that. Sounds like his penchant for ponderous platitudes got past his redundancy filter. Besides, you could sub in Bjork and still have an arguably true statement.
That said, I would like to know more about this multitude of vicissutidinal female facets.
