I was on kittyradio, and I just decided to download whitechocolatespaceegg about two months ago just for the fun of it.  I had heard Why Cant I before and I also knew her as a sell-out or whatever.  I was amazed by this record - Specifically girls room - I can relate to it  a lot, even though I'm a guy.  I'll be 17 in a month so I suppose I'm living that song.  But I think that song is one of the best songs ever made - Has Liz ever spoken about it?
Then I downloaded Exile which was hard to listen to the first time but now I think it is amazing.  The same thing happened w   ith Whip-Smart  - I only liked Supernova and Whip-Smart the first time I believe - Now I absolutley adore that record.
As for the self-titled, at least it is upbeat fun catchy songs.  Little Digger brings me to tears for personal reasons, though the situation isn't exactly the same.  But really, the record isn't as good as the predecessors is it?
I can't get into Somebody's Miracle at all - To me, it's like listening to one really long song - And I'm not limited when it comes to music.  I listen to a very large variety - From Bjork to Madonna to Hole to Smashing Pumpkins to Garbage to No Doubt to Nelly Furtado.  I guess I just don't like her voice at all on that record and she's  too mellowed out and I just can't get into it - To me, it's very dissapointing.
I love how Liz tells stories and is a realist with her lyrics without overdoing it happiness-wise or depression-wise which is maybe why SM doesn't work with me ... Though I realize songs like Table for One aren't exactly happy, I just can't  get into it.  I'm really confused about the girlysound tape 3 - I loved the tapes, some of the original songs were better, but how many songs are we missing from tape 3? We have some of it ...
There really isn't  a lot of information about Liz Phair lying around - I mean, her personal life anyway.  I know she got married and had a  kid and got divorced which I thought was awkward because Divorce Song is on Exile - The irony is odd.
But anyway, I'm absolutley amazed by Liz and I'm so happy I decided to download WCSE.  And before anyone gets upset - I'm asking for all the records, minus SM, for my birthday which is at the beggining of June ...

Welcome to the realm, Joey.

I have found that some people, myself included, play a certain minimum number of Liz Phair songs and you just "get it".  Once you are there, you will get a certain number of songs, but the more that you play the ones you don't like, the better the chance that eventually you might get them.

Common wisdom is that there is a lot more musically going on in the earlier works, but the important thing is what you enjoy and how it affects you.

We are a diverse lot.  Gay, straight.  Male, female.  Young, old.

Welcome. I have not heard anything special about Girlsroom, but I love how laid back the song is. It reminds me of my favorite novel.

"Girls Room" always reminded me of the missing part of "Girls Girls Girls" on Exile.
