No tabs of  Shane exist on the internet. The version in the Hal Leonard Whip Smart book is wrong. As far as anyones knows, Liz is the only person alive who knows how to play this song. Anybody have any ideas?

Hey, we now have a separate tabs and covers section of this forum.  If you don't object, I'll move this thread over to that section.

This may not make that much of a difference, but we do have a special moderator for just that section.  I'd like to see her comments on your query.

The solution to this was posted over at LP Forum.

Here is the portion of the thread where the first solution surfaced:

Just follow the thread for updates and other comments.

Since that forum no longer exists, does anyone have the tab for Shane that was posted there by any chance?

Yes, this is my tab... there's an error in the verse though. I'm just going to paste the amended tab here so that it'll stick around longer and be easier to find. If you see anything that should be corrected, please, let me know!

SHANE
Liz Phair

CAPO I to match Whip-Smart recording
CAPO II to match Girly Sound recording

SOME NOTES:
Most of the Xs and 0s alternate in the recordings and can be added and omitted as you please. Some of the strings in the intro and verses (mostly the B and e strings) are not usually played either.

The little slide during the chorus is strummed and therefore includes some open notes from other strings; they were not tabbed out. The same applies for the slide in the post-chorus.

The box for the second chorus corresponds to the second line only; the box for the first chorus corresponds to the first line. Also, the box for the second chorus applies to the Whip-Smart version only. In the Girly Sound version, Liz repeats the same pattern as in the first chorus.

In the first box of the post-chorus, the last chord comes in after the line "you've gotta watch your ass" is sung and right before the "You've gotta have fear in your heart" part.

About the altenate chord (*) in the verse: not sure which of the two variations is right, but both sound fine.
