The people in my group up at work went to see The Day The Earth Stood Still.  I had issues with the drop that we got late Thursday (I worked on that until 12:30 Thursday night), so I didn't get to go see it.  Bummer.  I had heard that it wasn't getting good reviews.

I want to go see Milk, which is about Harvey Milk.  I'm also looking forward to The Spirit.

I bought the movie Iron Man and my wife finally saw it.  She likes it, but prefers the X-Men movies.

We went and saw The Day The Earth Stood Still this afternoon.

It was an interesting take on an old classic.  I think that I need to get the original.

I'm surprised that I didn't mention Frost/Nixon.  We saw that about a week ago.  A really good movie.  I'm really impressed by Frank Langella in the role of Richard Nixon.

Today my wife and I saw the movie Milk, about Harvey Milk, the San Francisco city government Supervisor, who was the first openly gay politician.  I thought that Sean Penn did a really good job in this role.

The movie itself is really in your face.  You see Sean Penn kissing other men and you see scenes of sex between men, although nothing that really crosses the line is shown.  You do see some imperfections--Harvey was no saint, but I believe that he was a good man.  This is one person that I think that I would have liked to know.

You saw that he was more than just a one issue politician and that he really cared about the people of San Francisco.

I recommend the movie.

After the movie let out, my wife wondered if we were the only straight people in the audience.  I hope not.  I think that this is a movie that both straights and gays go out and see.

I really kind of wonder if Prop 8 would have passed in California if Harvey Milk hadn't been shot and killed.  It was a real shame that someone courageous like that was taken from us.

Slumdog Millionaire.

Very highly recommended.  The early part of the movie is rather brutal.  Parts of it are a bit painful to watch.  The abject poverty.  It's a real eye opener.

However, this is a very well made movie.

Don't miss the standard Bollywood-style dance steps during the end credits.

Do go see this movie.

Last Chance Harvey.  Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson.  They reteamed after being in the movie Stranger Than Fiction (although they had only one short scene together in that movie).

Dustin  Hoffman plays a guy who does jingles for commercials and his daughter is getting married in London.  James Brolin plays his ex-wife's new husband who seems closer to his daughter than he does.  I caught the interesting connection there:  James Brolin is Barbra Streisand's main squeeze and Dustin and Barbra played Ben Stiller's parents in Meet the Fokkers.

Anyways, it's a nice little  movie.  Good production.  Well written and well acted.  Recommended.

He's Just Not Into You.

Yep, it's a chick flick, but it's pretty funny.  Recommended.

The Reader, with Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet.

Sad.  So the question is this:  is illiteracy something to be insanely ashamed about?

I do recommend the movie, but it is a bit of a downer, so don't go when you need a pick-me-up movie.

We're probably going to go see "The Watchmen" later on today.  I've been really busy up at work and we're trying to make plans for the Europe trip at the end of the month.

I enjoyed Crazy Heart, although it did seem like a train wreck.  We recently watched Alice in Wonderland in 3D.  That's been getting mixed reviews.  We enjoyed it, but the 3D work in Avatar is much better.
