basically what I've got so far is that the 6th string is in "D" and that's about it.  Tongue
Any ideas?

A buddy of mine told me a long time ago that "Shatter" was in open D# tuning. That would be open D with a capo behind the first fret. But you could be right, if your guitar is in tune and you've played along with the album (which I have never tried to do).

My guitar is in open E tuning [E B E G# B E] -- just a step or a step-and-a-half above the tuning for "Shatter", which could be [D A D F# A D], and I've been messing around, getting bits and pieces of the song. Has anyone else gotten anywhere with it? It's easier to get the parts once she starts singing -- the chords seem to be slightly more straightforward -- but the first 2:30 of the song is really the most interesting part. And I have no clue what she's doing.

Thoughts?

Shatter's tuning is [D#/A#/D#/G/A#/D#], or you can use Open-D tuning [D/A/D/F#/A/D] with a capo on the 1st fret.  I just did the straight tuning without the capo.

I don't like Guitar Pro's ASCII exporter, so I'm gonna link it as the following:

PDF
GP5 (Guitar Pro 5)

Someone should play it and let me know what they think.

Thanks for doing this. It sounds really good to me. And it's fun to play. It's such a classic, but I've never seen it tabbed anywhere else.

Here's a question for you- do the guitar parts for this and the Girly Sound version have anything in common? Is it also in open D (or D#)?

I actually never listened to the Girly Sound version until last night.  I don't care for it, but as far as I heard, it has nothing in common at all.  As far as tuning goes, I have no clue.  There's a 100% chance of me not trying to figure it out though Smiley

I agree- it's not that interesting compared to the Exile version, except that it explains why it's titled Shatter. I kind of wonder how it went from point A to point B and came out so different.

The tab for this is amazing, Aaron.  You really hit it right on.

Also, I personally like the Girlysound version almost as much as the Exile version.  The Girlysound is completely different though.  It's, to me, really peaceful and serene sounding.  I don't mind that it doesn't have the edge of the Guyville Shatter.  Plus, the first time I heard the GS version, the Shatter repeating in the background scared the crap out of me.

Aw, that's so awesome, Aaron! I'm at school right now, but once I get home, I'm gonna learn how to play this! Sweet!
I've always preferred the GS version to the EiG version. I think her voice is so cool...it sounds like she's singing in an abandoned cathedral. There's my two cents. Wink

Does anyone have the tab anymore?  All the links are dead to the other ones I see on this page.  Thank you!

Oops, 14 months late on this. Hopefully you'll get a message in your inbox saying I've reposted.

http://www.mediafire.com/?yeo34qymmfn (and it was Funstyle that got me thinking about this board again)

Edit: There's the PDF file and the Guitar Pro file as well. Hopefully this link won't die because I get an e-mail once a month from Mediafire saying to log in so the account doesn't go inactive.
