Somebody's Miracle is a great  album.

The lyric "normalize" in Got My Own Thing would not come to the average everyday psycho.

lol

i was more interested in the whole rope line. i hope liz writes more songs about ropes or hanging. it gives her an edge or something. she should write more songs about death really.

Yes--the happy stuff just isn't as good.  We need the edgy stuff and how. Roll Eyes

The rope stuff is great.  "I hope you swing it this way too" is an especially loaded lyric.

The line is actually: "I hope you're swinging this way, too"
Not a big difference but it changes the interpretation.
I don't care for this song much. It reminds me of Shania Twain. It's also pretty pointless since she did a much better job the first time she wrote it when it was called My Bionic Eyes.

I agree that Got My Own Thing and Bionic Eyes are similar.  But she seems genuinely adversarial in MBI, which is set in "singles" crowd of strangers, whereas GMOT seems to involve friends of friends -- a party where "Liz Phair" is supposed to show up, does, and everyone acts accordingly, doing what they're supposed to do.   They enact a charade of social graces, she renders the men inert, but half enjoys it.  In Bionic Eyes, she paints herself as much less pleasant, bordering on malicious.

I also agree that GMOT sounds a little bit country.  But then I've always thought that "Clean" sounded country.

^^ This post (by Surflord) seems off topic for this thread.
